Position: Operations Manager
Location: Tompkins County Workers’ Center (TCWC)
Schedule: 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule. This is a hybrid work position of both in-person and remote work requirements. Expected in office at least twice per week. 

Overall Position Description:

The Operations Manager is an integral role at TCWC. Working under the direct supervision of the TCWC Coordinator, the Operations Manager provides administrative support, financial management support, and logistical support necessary to meet the goals of TCWC.

The Operations Manager is an active participant in helping TCWC achieve its mission of standing up with all people treated unfairly at work through support, advocacy, empowerment, and movement-building. As such, the Operations Manager is expected to become knowledgeable about TCWC workings. 

This position has the possibility to grow into a 25-30/hour a week job where the increased workload would primarily be in community organizing tasks and coalition building as well as supervision of work study students, interns and volunteers 

Responsibilities

Administration and Office Management (70%)

  1. Coordinate day-to-day administrative operations including organizational record-keeping, compliance, and database management:
  1. Ensure timely entry of TCWC financial supporters into LGL Database for both TCWC and all fiscal sponsors as necessary; send out donation thank you letters and annual giving tax receipt letters. 
  2. Ensure all receipts are uploaded to the google drive and shared with accountants 
  3. Responsible for receiving mail and depositing checks to TCWC bank accounts 
  4. Responsible for filing bank deposits and sharing with accountants. 
  5. Responsible for processing and writing check reimbursements 
  6. Responsible in collaboration with coordinator to ensure all recurring monthly payments are made such as printer equipment rental, accounting services, LGL subscription services, office space rental, etc. 
  7. As necessary, answer the telephone, take messages, and interact with the public.
  1. Manage use and maintenance of office, public space and equipment:
    1. Support Coordinator with space rentals as needed and ensure the TCWC Google Calendar is up to date;
    2. Responsible for ensuring trash and recycling are taken out to the cans provided in the hallway by landlord; Make sure trash and cleaning supplies are available at office 
    3. Responsible for the replacement of supplies and equipment for office as necessary 

Resource Development (10%)

  1. Work with the Coordinator to spearhead the crafting, printing, and mailing of the newsletter and fundraising asks letter throughout the year. Bring in other staff members and volunteers to provide administrative support to accomplish mailings in a timely manner as seen fit. 
  2. Meet with Accountant on a monthly basis with the Treasurer to review monthly financial statements and flag any financial concerns to the Coordinator 
  3. Other duties as assigned. 

Organizing Support (20%)

  1. Provide admin and day of event support for Labor Day Picnic 
  2. Support hotline if needed
  1. ensure timely entering of hotline calls into LGL and following up communication with worker 
  2. become knowledgeable in NYS worker rights and pathways for handling various labor issues 
  3. Potentially serve as an advocate for department of labor complaints 

       4) Support ongoing campaigns as needed such as raising the minimum wage to a living wage

       5) Other duties as assigned. 

Previous experience & skills seeking: 

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a very diverse population from all socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Interest in workers’ rights issues and community organizing; and commitment to the mission of the TC Workers Center;
  • Creativity, reliability, and self-directedness with independent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information concisely and effectively to internal and external audiences;
  • Prior work experience in office administration and/or financial management;
  • Proficiency in database management, in addition to computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Prior experience in community and/or labor organizing 
  • Experience with a CRM system.
  • Prior experience with fundraising admin

The position is grant-funded and contingent upon receiving future funding.
