Local Minimum Wage: Tuesday, 7/16: Legislature Votes on Next Steps

This past Monday, July 8th, the Housing and Economic Development Committee of the Tompkins County Legislature voted unanimously to pass our Resolution which keeps the ball rolling on a local law creating a Tompkins County minimum wage that is a Living Wage, which is presently $18.45/hour. The next step for this legislation is going to the full Tompkins Legislature (see agenda here) this coming Tuesday, July 16th @ 5:30 p.m. If you support this move, please consider the following options:

  • Come to the Legislature meeting in person (located at 121 E. Court Street, back door, and on 2nd floor), fill out a blue slip indicating interest in speaking and make Public Comment during Privilege of the Floor by the Public (speakers get up to 3 minutes);
  • If you’re not able to make it in person, you can make a request to speak on Zoom during Privilege of the Floor by the Public by emailing Legislature@tompkins-co.org at least 24 hours in advance. Once you have submitted your request you will be sent a zoom link to the meeting, this invite SHOULD NOT be shared or forwarded;
  • If you’re interested in making Public Comment to be read at the Legislature meeting, you may do so via email, go here.

We are looking for workers as well as community members and supportive employers to come out and speak, or otherwise register your feelings on the matter! Please let us know at pete@tcworkerscenter.org if you think you can come or otherwise have any questions.
